Pocket Lyrics Terms of Use

Effective date: 3 November 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Goodmark Limited, a New Zealand company ("Goodmark", "we", "us"), for your use of the Pocket Lyrics app and website ("Pocket Lyrics"). By creating an account or using Pocket Lyrics you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your information.

1. What Pocket Lyrics is

Pocket Lyrics is a personal songbook. You type or paste in the lyrics and chords of songs you play, keep them in your own library, arrange them into sets, and read them on stage from your phone, tablet or computer. It also includes a guitar tuner, a chord library and a chord detection feature. Pocket Lyrics does not supply any lyrics or chords itself: everything in your library is put there by you.

2. Your account

  • You need an account (an email address and password) to use Pocket Lyrics so that your songs can sync between your devices.
  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has agreed to these terms.
  • Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.
  • Give us a real email address that you control. We use it to sign you in, reset your password and contact you about your account.
  • One account is for one person. Please do not share it.

3. Your content

It stays yours

The songs, lyrics, chords, links and sets you add ("your content") belong to you or to whoever owns the rights in them. We claim no ownership. You give us permission only to store your content, sync it between your devices, show it back to you, and make the export files you ask for. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.

You are responsible for it

Pocket Lyrics is a tool for your own private use, like a paper songbook. Most lyrics and many chord arrangements are protected by copyright. You are responsible for making sure you are allowed to use what you type in. In particular you agree that you will:

  • use your content for personal, non-commercial practice and performance in the same way you could use a printed copy you made for yourself,
  • not use Pocket Lyrics to distribute lyrics or chord sheets to others, for example by exporting and publishing them, unless you hold the rights to do so, and
  • not add content that is unlawful, that infringes someone's rights, or that is abusive or harmful.

We do not read or review your content, and we take no responsibility for it. You alone are responsible for any claim that arises from it.

Reporting content

If you believe content stored in Pocket Lyrics infringes your copyright or other rights, email support@goodmarklabs.com with the subject "Takedown" and tell us:

  • what the work is and that you own or represent the rights in it,
  • how we can identify the content (for example the account email, song title or an exported file you received), and
  • your contact details and a statement that your report is made in good faith.

Because each user's library is private and visible only to them, we will contact the account holder, and we may remove the content or close the account if a report is well founded. We will respond within 10 working days. False reports may expose you to liability.

Export and import

You can export your songs as ChordPro (.cho) text files at any time, and import ChordPro or plain text files. What you do with exported files is up to you and your responsibility.

4. Fair use of the service

Please do not:

  • try to access other people's accounts or content,
  • interfere with the app, our servers or Firebase, or try to get around the app's limits (currently 5,000 songs and 500 sets per account),
  • copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell Pocket Lyrics, except where the open-source licences listed in the app allow, or
  • use Pocket Lyrics to store anything other than your own songbook material.

5. Microphone and audio features

The Tuner and Detect features use your device's microphone, and Detect can open audio files you choose. All of this is processed on your device and nothing is recorded, saved or uploaded (see the Privacy Policy). You control microphone access in your device settings.

Chord detection, key detection and the tuner are automatic estimates. They can be wrong, especially with complex music or in a noisy room. They are a helpful starting point, not a substitute for your ears or for professional transcription.

Pocket Lyrics is a paid app. Some features may require a one-time purchase or a subscription. Prices, and any free trial or subscription terms, are shown in the App Store or Google Play before you buy, in your local currency, and may differ between countries.

Purchases are made through Apple's App Store or Google Play and are subject to their terms. Apple or Google handles your payment and any refund under their own policies; we do not receive your card details and cannot issue refunds directly.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancelling stops future charges but does not refund the period you have already paid for.

We may change prices for future periods; we will tell you before a change applies to you. Nothing in this section limits your rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or equivalent consumer law where you live.

7. Availability and changes

We work hard to keep Pocket Lyrics running, and the app is designed to work offline, but we cannot promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change, add or remove features, and we may update these terms. If a change to the terms matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Pocket Lyrics after that, you accept the new terms.

Keep your own copy of anything important. Export all songs is always available in Settings.

8. Ending your use

You can stop using Pocket Lyrics at any time and delete your account in Settings, or by following the steps at goodmarklabs.com/pocket-lyrics/delete-account. Deleting your account removes your songs and sets permanently.

We may suspend or close an account if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken, if required by law, or if we stop offering Pocket Lyrics. Except where the law or safety prevents it, we will warn you first and give you a chance to export your songs. If we stop offering Pocket Lyrics altogether, we will give at least 30 days' notice.

9. Our responsibility to you

Pocket Lyrics is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises beyond those in these terms, and we are not liable for loss of data, loss of profit, or any indirect loss arising from your use of Pocket Lyrics or from content you or others add to it. Where we are liable, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for Pocket Lyrics in the 12 months before the claim, or NZ$50 if you paid nothing.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or equivalent consumer protection law in the country where you live, which cannot be excluded. If you use Pocket Lyrics for business purposes, you agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and any dispute will be handled by the New Zealand courts, unless the consumer law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally. We will always try to resolve problems with you directly first: please email us.

11. Open-source software

Pocket Lyrics includes open-source software, fonts and libraries. Their licences are listed in the app under Settings > About > Open-source licences.
